What is the best way to select only the cabinets in this picture?

The problem of course is the windowed cabinet doors.I tried messing with the levels and channels as per a tutorial but couldn't get the quick selection tool to work very well. Obviously I can just use the pen tool but I would bet there is an easier way.

No easier way than the pen tool for this. You could try the Lasso tool with the Alt key, but if you get it a bit wrong, you have a problem. With a path, you can edit a single point as easy as can be.
