Optimised Proxy

Engaged ,

In Rush-Windows there is a switch “use optimized files” or similar. When clicked, Rush generates optimized proxy data which is then used for cutting and syncing. These Proxy files are a bit smaller than the original for my Xavc HD files, they seem not to be generated when working with low res mp4 clips.

Question: When I finally render my video, does Rush still use these optimized proxy files? Is there a loss in quality? Are these optimized proxies synced to an Ipad - are they then optimized again for IOS and used for rendering?

Hi JoachimS!

When you export, Rush uses your original files and exports in higher quality than the proxies are made of. The whole thing about proxies is that they're used to cut and are traded out for the good stuff when it comes time to export.

Thanks!

Caroline

Caroline,

rush synchronises the optimised proxies with the cloud. So they land on the IPad for example. So, whenever I export from the IPad, it uses these optimised proxy and not the original. Does that do any harm to the quality?

JoachimS,

It should not be decreasing the quality of your video!

Is it possible to host the proxies locally on my machine instead of the cloud? I am in Kenya, where the internet connection is costly and unreliable.

Hey markeekhoff!

Yes, you can turn off your Cloud usage by going to the home screen with all your projects on it!

Hi Caroline, I hope it's ok to interject here. I have:

  • Laptop 1 (LT1), synched to cloud, no import of files
  • Laptop 2 (LT2), synched to cloud, no import of files

If I create a video completely on LT1, it renders fine.

I'm confused because if I render the video on Laptop2, it only has the proxy files available, so how to does it work with the proxy files only when it doesn't have access to the original files.

Thanks for the time
