Acrobat 8 Standard reinstall

I am reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard on my computer after a hard drive failure. I have the original diskette and correct serial number but am not able to activate via the internet. Can you help?  Michael Willingham The serial number is 1016-1819-2858-7368-8227-7463. When I try to activate, I get a prompt to use a CD/ROM from Windows Vista. I don't have that CD/ROM.

uninstall cs3 (using the uninstaller)

clean per http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

remove the cache.db file from Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache/

restart your computer
