update by downloading the files directly and then applying them: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/

This did not work. I downloaded "AcroPro90_efg.exe" that I found on that site. When I ran that, and it asked for my serial number I got the error message "Invalid Serial number" for my legit serial number, [serial no. removed - kglad]

are you trying to update acrobat 9 or install it?
