Question

Acrobat DC - has printing become a game of chance?

When trying to print a PDF from Acrobat DC, it is a hit'n-miss-game these days. When trying to print, a first indication that it may not work is the missing option for printing duplex in the print window. If that doesn't appear at all, I know I have lost this game. So i need to close the application, open my document again, call up the printing menu and hope for the best. IF however I got lucky and "duplex" is offered - it dones't mean I shall be getting my print. This has been going on for a while now. Our company IT person has changed the printer settings to "local" printer, rather than having to go via the company sever - hoping that would help - but unfortunately to no avail.

Now my collegue has downloaded the Acrobat DC test version and has run into the same problem - so I am NOW thinking, it may not be our general inhouse IT set-up As I said, the problem has only been happening for some months - I am on a "Windows 7" system and use the whole suite incl. Frame Maker and only hencounter this problem with Acrobat.
I would like to add that I truely deplore the way, ADOBE goes about gathering information on how your use their products and miss no opportunity to have you praise them, but trying to find a solution to a problem "is a tad tedious" - to put it mildy (yet fumingly!) I have no clue where the problem may lie (I am just a user and my story's seldom told...) - but neither does our IT person! So - has anybody out there found my needle in the haystack yet? Any Adobe people reading into this problem and having a clue? Make my day and let me in this unnerving secret!

We are having the same printing issues.  I've searched for probably two years as well for a solution.  All users on our network that use Acrobat Pro DC (version 2019.010.20069) experience the same printing problems.  Acrobat Pro DC will not always print.  We either have to close the program multiple times or reboot our computers.  Typically we close the program three or four times and eventually it will print our documents.  I see on the forums this appears to be a common problem for users.  However I haven't seen any tips that work for us.  There seems to be no consistency of when it will not print.  It does not appear to work whether its the first time we open a document or even if we have several documents open at the same time.  The print command will not start the print function.  When we finally see the box pop up for printing progress, we know we are going to print.  We can have printed several documents and then for no reason we can find, it just stops printing.

This is getting very frustrating for the staff and hope that someone can assist us with this issue.  Any new suggestions we can try?  Come on Adobe - get to work on a solution.

I'm using Acrobat DC and I'm not running into those problems even that we have a very restrictive corporate environment.

Printing is consistent and when we run into problems, it's the file that causes the problems.

Sorry to be of no help, but if you would like to have help, you should provide more information on your environment:

  • Acrobat type and version
  • Printer(s) and printer driver version
  • Anything other that may be of value to understand what is going on. Your description is written in a way that confuses more then it helps. The only thing that I understood is that you have trouble for the duplex printing option.

I do not have troubles with the duplex printing as such.

I have a problem with PRINTING PDF files on the whole!
I have this problem with all PDF files (and it makes no difference if they are on locally my hard drive or if I access them from the server) and only from Acrobat. IF I print a single PDF Page from Illustrator, the problem does not occur.

If I open a PDF document by double clicking the file name in the Explorer window (hence operining Acrobat in the course or opening the file in a running Acrobat application) or by opeing the same file by going via the respective command within the running Acrobat application, makes no difference.

If however I try to print the file and the print window opens, sometimes the "duplex" option is missing - it simply is not there!
When the duplex option is missing in the "print" window, it will not print - for sure!

I have to open and close the programme (Acrobat) and try again.

However!

Even if "duplex" as an option IS available (and displayed!), and I click the print command - only if the actual process bar is then displayed, I know my print job is sent off to the printer (SAME file that wouldn't be printed before) - otherwise, nothing happens (no print job listed in the printer jobs of the printer.

I have several printers I can chose from, but no matter which I chose, if it won't print with the first one, it won't print with any printer I then select. As I stated, I have to close and re-open Acrobat and try again (sometims more than once!)
It is a problem I cannot make head nor tail of - as I said - a hit &miss game
I update my versions according to Creative Cloud and the printer's driver's are also all up to date.

So I do not believe it has to do with the set-up and I cannot recall with which update of Acrobat this problem started occuring.

Acrobat asks the printer driver via the OS about the properties of the printer. If the driver says the printer is able to do duiplex you will be shown the duplex option(Papier beidseitig bedrucken).

It's strange that this is quite erratic.

Please try the Print as image (Bilddruck?) option under "Erweitert".

As I started my most recent post: If it doesn't register the print job, it doesn't print in any way. It does not process the printing command.

That means it does NOT print with ANY setting - it doesn't print with "Als Bild drucken" (Print as image)
I tried all sorts!

The ONLY thing I noticed was, that - IF the option for the duplex printing is missing - that is a sure indication, that - obviously - Acrobat and the printer driver do not correspond correctly and nothiung happens when I click on "print". Funny though, that it will not correspond with ANY printer I can access - not even with the plotter!

I have to open and close the program a few times and - as I said initially - after maybe 3-6 efforts, Acrobat graciously allow me to print.

Then as if there is no fault - same file, same printer settings - all back to absolut normal behaviour.

BUT it is VERY annoying if you have various documents open (for a purpose) and have to close ALL just to print out a single page.

We have been having this same issue with Acrobat DC for over 2 years now.  No resolution from Adobe.

We see this issue on Windows 7 & Windows 10.

At least we are not alone - in some odd way that offers some consolation! Thanx!
