acrobat Install almost completes, then exits install with "new version already installed"

Originally had a local Acrobad DC reader app on my windows 10 laptop working.  My work login includes the adobe subscription suite and over wrote my local app settings.  I no longer have the subscription access and want to reinstall the old Reader app, but the install executable never complete (up to 98% installed) then prematurly quits the install stating "a newer version of acrobat is already installed" with the only selection options button of "Finish" is available.  The installation never competes, and there is not trace of acrobat or an uninstall options under the windows - control panel - apps  list of installed or modifiable applications on the pc.   Is there a way to run an "uninstall" app for the acrobat program that will scrub the registery for the conflicting option key?   I'd like to use acrobat again and system currently defaults to Windows Edge to read PDF files.

Hi @Jim290441998s26

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

If it still doesn't work, please remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html , reboot the computer once and reinstall the application using the direct link
https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Ran cleaner program successfully, but the reinstall still pops up with the
same message "a new version of acrobat is already installed" yet every
program directory "Program files", "Program files (x86) have empty
folders where the acrobat files should be (and Yes I have the "view system
and hidden files" attribute set so these are empty folders.

Not sure what else to do. Maybe a windows system refresh to clear the
registry. Lots of other programs to reinstall then.

No the uninstaller did not work.  Still get the same message towards the end of the installer process.

So still no acrobat reader is available to me.

OK, did the uninstall again, and then the direct downloadable .exe installed DID do the trick.

Acrobat is again working.

Thank You for your assistance.
