Acrobat Pro DC not showing Entire Typeface Family

Hi everyone.  I'm trying to create an editable PDF in Acrobat DC using the typeface Cooper Hewitt.  Unfortunately, I can't get the whole typeface family to show up, only one font which shows as ital.  Why wont the entire typeface family (bold, semibold, book, etc.) show up in my fonts in acrobat?

Thanks

I have finally figured it out and it is NOT a windows issue idk what that other guy was on about but i did find the solution. It is an adobe issue and i was also having it with photoshop because adobe does not show custom imported font families. So what I did was download a program called fontforge and these are the steps after you download it.
https://github.com/fontforge/fontforge/releases/download/20230101/FontForge-2023-01-01-Windows.exe

1. Open the font with FontForge

2. Click Element and then Font info

3. In my case the name of my font is SF Pro Rounded Ultralight so i would make the name SFPRULTRALIGHT and make sure it is all one word with no dashes or spaces

4. Change the font name, family name, and name for humans all too SFPRULTRALIGHT and hit ok

5. It asks you if you want to create a random unicode ID or something like that and you do so click Change

6. Now click File and then Generate fonts

7. Un check the validate before saving box and make sure the first box is set to "TrueType" and dont change anything else

8. The saving UI is really hard to use so I recommend just making a folder in downloads so you can throw it in there and delete it later

9. Make sure the folder you want to save it to is the one at the top of the box and then hit generate

10. After you have generated all of your fonts variants open a new files window and go to C:\Windows\Fonts

11. MAKE SURE YOU DELETED ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF THE FONT (delete all of the other ones of that font you installed before)

11. Highlight all the fonts you generated and drag and drop them into the C:\Windows\Fonts window

12. Windows will see right through your edits and generate the font and family exactly as it did before BUT it did trick adobe to seeing all of the fonts as different and new families each so they will all show seperately

If this did not work lmk so i can delete this so people dont waste time trying it but it worked for me

This is not an Acrobat issue but a Windows issue. Windows can load only 4 types for each font family.

The 'solution' is to create a Fonts folder in your adobe program folder and copy the fonts there.

I'm having the exact same problem currently, did you ever find a solution?

No, never found a solution.  Quite annoying really.  Let me know if you ever figure out a workaround.

thanks!

Can you tell us what process you are using to create this document?  If you are trying to create it in ACROBAT... I would instead suggest doing it a program made to design documents such as Word, etc.  Acrobat isn't made for document design and layout.

My best,

Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply.  The project is for a packaging label that has certain info that needs to be regularly updated for different testing results.  The label was built in Illustrator with the testing info area left blank.  What I'm trying to accomplish is an editable PDF that an employee can fill in prior to printing new labels without having to edit in illustrator.  The rest of the label uses Cooper Hewitt typeface and that's why i'm trying to keep consistency throughout the label.  But acrobat isn't loading all the Cooper Hewitt typeface family.  I hope this helps.

When PDFs are created, depending on the engine used, a feature called Subsetting can be applied.  The idea is that the PDF can have just the characters used in the source doc embedded.  I have no idea if this is affecting your particular situation, but if you can locate your PDF creation settings, you may be able to dig deep enough to find a dialog like the one shown below:

If possible, try turning OFF the Subset feature and create your PDF again.  Maybe it will fix your issue.  I am only guessing, as I don't know your precise workflow, files, etc.  Also, remember how you got there, so you can retrace your steps to undo this, in case it doesn't solve your issue.

My best,

Dave
