Acrobat Pro v2023.001.20064 running very slow

I have Windows 10 OS on a Dell laptop. PDF docs are marked up and edited for revisions. Docs are 5,000+ pages. I first checked for updates, they were current. I then did an uninstall and reinstall of Acrobat Pro. No change in performance at this point. Saw posts about clearing recent documents, did that and performance improved only slightly. Performance degredation is recent, no major network or OS changes happened around the time of performance loss. Docs were originally on the server, thought that might be an issue, so moved docs to desktop to work local. No performance change. Even though docs are large, saves and changes happened fairly quick, especially locally. Now it can take up to 30 minutes to save. If I try to add a text box or other comment, it may take up to 5 minutes to generate. On occasion I have had it crash. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you for well explaining the troubleshooting steps performed. 

Install the latest patch 23.001.20093 https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html 

Since you have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application, then you may try a couple of additional steps to see if that helps-

Navigate to Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Security (Enhanced)>disable "Protected Mode at Start-up", "Protected View" and "Enhanced Security">OK>close and reopen Acrobat and then try again. [Windows only]

Note: these changes are only for testing purposes. Once tested, please change it back to the previous setting.
