Sorry to hear about the trouble caused, and thanks for sharing the troubleshooting steps performed.
Have you started experiencing this issue after installing the latest update for Acrobat or OS?
When you say you cannot start the application, does it mean the Acrobat doesn't launch?
Try this:
- Restart computer
- Run this cleaner tool to remove the existing installer and application’s files traces:
https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html
- Download the Acrobat installer from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html
If this doesn't help, then enable a root user account and try launching the application in that.
