I am using Acrobat XI Pro on a Dell with Windows 10 and it stopped stying open, closes after 10-15 seconds, it won't even open a .pdf download.  It was working fine on my old computer and for 6+ months on this new one.  I have reinstalled it twice and checked everything I can think of.  This was purchased new and I have a serial number.

Hi,

Instead of trying to uninstall and reintall manually you can try first to go to Help, and choose Repair Installation... is this how you're doing it?

Here are a few more suggestions:

  • Use the Adobe Acrobat/ Reader Cleaner & Repair Tool to remove old traces of the old software installation: Acrobat Cleaner Tool
  • Update your windows 10 and always reboot after commiting new changes
  • Before reinstalling again, go online to adobe.com and then Manage Account. See if you have more than one computer device associated with your user account (AdobeID)
  • If there is more than one device listed in your user account remove or deactivate the old computer device that your AdobeID was associated with before, and only leave active the current system device where you're trying to perform this installtion
  • Reinstall Adobe Acrobat  Pro XI using your original software installation media, but if you're using  Windows 10 in that new computer,  first copy all the installation media files to a folder in Windows 10. Run the installtion from there and not from the CD sets (it's a lot faster).
  • Right-click on the installer setup.exe file and run the Program Compatibility Troublshooter
  • Test the Acrobat Pro XI installation setup.exe with the compatibility troubleshooter wizard for the version of MS Windows you had it before in the old computer
  • Allow the wizard to detect, download and install any dependencies
  • If installation is successful, finalize the installation by applying the latest update patch that was published for that older version of Acrobat. You can get it here: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotes/11/11.0.23.html#elevenzerozerotwentythree

  • I followed the above and the program seems to be working OK.  I tried to apply the update patch and at the end I got this error message "Error 1328. Error applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PTB615.tmp.  It has probably been updated by other means and can no longer be modified by this patch.  For more information contact you patch vendor."
  • I also get a notifications that there is an update available and get an error message when I try to install it.
  • It will not let me register or activate, options in drop down help menu are grayed out.
  • My online account showes the Acrobate 8 the I had previously but I cannot finde a way to delete it.  When I try to register XI it tells me my serial number is not valid.

Any suggestions as to where I go from here.............Thanks
