Acrobat won't update Error : 104

While speaking with a friend, he was complaining about new Acrobat update and how he can't find any tools like he use to and how he generally hates Adobe's bloated software. I asked him what version he had, and I realized my version of Acrobat is old. It never updated.

 

When I tried to check for updates, I get this modal box:

"An error occurred. Please check for updates again later.
Error: 104"

 

My creative cloud says Acrobat is up to date and no updates are available. That's not true.

 

My about menu in Acrobat lists this:

"Architecture: x86_64
Processor: Intel
Build: 22.3.20258.0
AGM: 7.0.1
CoolType: 8.1.0
JP2K: 3.0.1.51486"

 

This version is a year old.

 

What do I do? How do I get Acrobat to update and inform me new updates are available.

UPDATE: I used the Creative Cloud app to remove the older Acrobat. Creative Cloud then listed the Acrobat as having an update available. I updated it and to my surprise all of my settings and identity/signature remained. It couldn't have been easier. Kudos to Adobe.

What System are you on?

It's possible the Acrobat Update Helper on your system is an old one. This can happen if you've had an existing Acrobat install while you've updated your System versions since that time. Reinstalling a clean version of Acrobat should correct that. Uninstall and reinstall through your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you Brad. I'm running MacOS Monteray (12.6.8). I was hoping I didn't need to do a clean install, because I'd loose my settings and preferences. I've been taking screenshots of the settings, and I'll bite the bullet and do a clean install.

Make sure your computer meets the minimum CPU & GPU requirements to support latest versions. Most Creative Cloud apps work on:

  • Windows 11 (64-bit), Windows 10 versions 22H2, 21H2, 21H1;
  • MacOS 13 (Ventura), 12 (Monterey), macOS 11 (Big Sur).

Do a clean install.  Remove old Acrobat versions from your system first.

Thank you for the advice, but my notifications are turned on. I do get notices Illustrator, Photoshop Camera Raw, what have you. My other Adobie apps are up to date. Only Acrobat is not.
