When I try to combine files into a single PDF I get the error message that I need Acrobat DC to complete this task. I don't know what Acrobat DC is and why my Acrobat XI Pro won't perform the function. Can anyone help!

acrobat dc is the current version of acrobat.

acrobat should be able to combine files that are basic pdfs located on your local file system., https://www.teachucomp.com/combine-pdfs-in-acrobat-xi/#:~:text=To%20combine%20PDFs%20in%20Acrobat,in....

if you're trying to combine pdfs that have something special about them (shared, on networked drives etc) that might require an upgrade to your acrobat version.

Also, you can no longer create or open Portfolios in Acrobat XI, since it relied on Flash to do that, unfortunately.

@try67

acrobat xi relied on flash to combine pdfs?

if so, if the op installed flash player on their computer (not browser), would that work for acrobat to combine pdfs?

Thanks for the response. The problem was combining JPG files. When I changed them to PDF files, Acrobat XI Pro combined them.

For Portfolios, yes.

And they can't install the Flash Player. Adobe retired it completely.

I'm the op. I saved the files as JPG files in PhotoShop and was able to have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro combine them.

They can merge PDF files as a PDF, but not as a Portfolio.

Yes. Thank you. I still don't understand the difference between Acrobat IX Pro and Acrobat DC. I used to be able to combine JPG files into Acrobat but can't now.

You should still be able to do it in either version. The main difference is that Acrobat XI is outdated and not compatible with any current OS, so problems with it are to be expected.

@try67, how did you know the op was trying to combine bitmaps as opposed to pdfs when you first posted?
