Hi Everyone,

Can I add a signature (fill and sign) in a document which has been digitally signed already?

I'm using Acrobat Reader DC 2020.012

Is it possible if I'm using Adobe Acrobat pro version?

Thanks

Hi Noko,

Hope you are doing well. If the PDF is sent to you via Adobe Sign with a signature field assigned to you, then yes you can add the signature to the document which is signed (Digital/certificate signature) by first person.

If the PDF is sent to you an an email attachment (No signature field is assigned to you), then you can not add the signature to it. As once the PDF file is signed and the signature process is completed, it gets locked for further editing and we can not make any more changes to it.

Hope it will help

Hi Noko,

Hope you are doing well. As described you want to add a signature (fill and sign) in a document which has been digitally signed already.

Would you mind sharing the workflow/steps you are doing? Have you got the PDF via Adobe sign with a signature fields assigned to you or as an email attachement?

usually, once the PDF file is signed and the signature process is completed, it gets locked for further editing and we can not make any more changes to it.

Hope this information will help.

Hi Amal,

Thank you for your quick response.
Usually we use digitally signature for forms approval. We use digitally
sign (certificate) because it can not be deleted by other person. 1 form
will be signed by 3 people.

Since not everyone can open the document on pc/laptop all the time, so they
need to approve the document on their mobile phone.
Due to the limitation of Acrobat Reader DC for mobile (can not use
certificate), they will use fill and sign rather than digitally signature
(certificate).

Usually some one has put certificate on a document and then sent it by
email to their superior for approval.

Hi Noko

Thanks for sharing the information. As described, Person 1 needs to digitally sign the PDF and then send the document to 3 other people.

Please perform the following steps.

  1. Person (1) needs to open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC > Click on Fill and sign tool > Request for signature.
  2. Add the email of himself and the other 3 people in the email box in order he wants the signature to be done. (first email will be of person 1 as he will be the first one to digitally sign the PDF)
  3. Click on 'More Option' in the lower left corner.
  4. Select 'Preview & Add Signature fields' in the lower left corner > Click 'Next'
  5. Drag and Drop one digital signature field and three signature fields on the PDF file
  6. Right click on each fields and select 'Edit' and assign the field to each person. He needs to assign the digital signature field to himself.
  7. Once all the signature fields and the digital signature field is assigned to their corresponding signatory > Click on 'Sign, then Send' in the lower right corner.

The person one will get an email from Adobe sign to digitally sign the PDF, he needs to open the link in the email and digitally sign the PDF. Once he signs the PDF, it will be sent automatically to the next person (in order the emails were added in the email box in step 2) for signature and they can simply open the link in the email to sign the PDF in the web browser.
