ERROR 1642
The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade.
product installed shows
Adobe Acrobat (64-bit) {ac76ba86-1033-1033-7760-bc15014ea700}
patch being applied is AcrobatDCx64Upd2200320282.msp , but this same thing has been going on with ALOT of PC's on our network for the last 3 updates....
looks like all of these PC had {AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0C0F074E4100} 32bit to start with, then self updated to 64, but trying to install AcroRdrDCUpd2200320282.msp wont work either...
so far the only "fix" is, i have to uninstall and reinstall
reg info from the PC..

so, in testing, i tried to install the reader update, even thought this PC dosent have reader installed, and.........
AcroRdrDCx64Upd2200320282.msp installed just fine, YET ITS STILL THE PRODUCT CODE FOR ACROBAT..... NOT READER!!!!!!!...............

someone from adobe maybe want to explain how we are supposed to push the right updates to PC's, when your own software doesn’t know?
we have a few thousand PC's that have these installed and no way to know what update they need, and the SCUP catalog isn’t working either...

Apologies for the inconvenience caused.
We use same alias 'Adobe Acrobat (64-bit)' for both Acrobat 64 bit and Reader 64 bit application.
You can differentiate between them by :
1. Product codes :
Reader 64 bit - {ac76ba86-1033-1033-7760-bc15014ea700}
Acrobat 64 bit - {ac76ba86-1033-ffff-7760-bc15014ea700}
2. Application name in title bar and about box
Now the issues you are facing are:
1. Applying patch AcrobatDCx64Upd2200320282.msp on Adobe Acrobat (64-bit) {ac76ba86-1033-1033-7760-bc15014ea700} is giving error : because the base application is Reader 64 bit and the patch you are applying is of Acrobat 64 bit. You can apply AcroRdrDCx64Upd2200320282.msp patch as you already mentioned in your reply 1.
2. PCs had {AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0C0F074E4100} 32bit to start with, then self updated to 64, but trying to install AcroRdrDCUpd2200320282.msp wont work either... : The base application you are using is Acrobat 64 bit and the patch is of Reader 32 bit. That will not work either. You can use AcrobatDCx64Upd2200320282.msp file here.
