I'm attempting to run an update on my newly installed adobe acrobat XI pro. I just installed this program from a disc (still in original wrap - never opened - never previously installed - never previously registered). The installation went smoothly; serial number validated and program opened up with no issues.
However, when I went to "Help" on tool bar and ran a "check for updates", I ran into a snag. An update was found and successfully downloaded. However, when I installed the update, it seemingly got about 80% of the way through the update installation and then started backing out and reversing the update install. It gave me the following error:
Update Failed
Error 1328. Error applying patch to file. C:\Config.Msi\PTD3BA.tmp. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor.
I called customer support (obviously in India) and spent 40 mins on the phone with absolutely no help! The operator kept insisting that my S/N was invalid. I was adamant that it was NOT invalid and reminded him that it was already "authenticated" at installation. He left me on hold several times then finally conceded that his system isn't recognizing the S/N because they are no longer offering support for this product and that support for this product is now only available through the "forum". All I can say to that is "WOW". (Is Adobe seriously not honoring their older products that are still out there!?)
Can anyone give me any insight into how I can successfully get my product updated? Thanks in advance!

Ok, so I finally figured this out on my own. (Thanks for your post John T. Smith but that link didn't have any info on Acrobat XI Pro.)
I played a hunch that that the "installer" on my CD may have been just too outdated and earlier update patches are just no longer available; so this created a gap that the "update" function simply couldn't bridge. I checked the properties on my installed program and noted that it was version 11.0.00. So I Googled "Adobe Acrobat XI Pro Download" and found this page on the Adobe site... Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI, or X I figured that this installer is probably the most recent available and therefore compatible with the current update patches???
So I...
I am no "techie" but I can be a Pit Bull with a bone and was not giving up until I solved this mystery! I truly hope that this post helps someone else down the road.
God Bless.

Updates start here for old products, read to see if you need to install updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

This seems to work but unfortunately after you update to 11.0.20 adobe starts asking for a serial number and the serial number that was in my SEALED Acrobat XI (ver 11.0.0) is now reported as invalid.
Adobe basically turns a fresh sealed Acrobat XI serial into a 30 day trial, so much for their Acrobat XI forever license.
They want that monthly revenue stream.
Maybe the fix is to not do an update and keep it as ver 11.0.07.

Hi there
Hope you are doing well.
Acrobat 11 is an EOL application and is not supported on the latest Mac and Win OS https://adobe.ly/3QlhvdR
If you're experiencing issues related to an invalid or revoked serial number, please check the following help page to see if it provides a solution: https://adobe.ly/41jYnTJ and see if that works.

I understand end of life, but I paid for a sealed Acrobat Pro XI and I am not asking for any support. I just don't want a valid product to be summarly deemed counterfeit because it is EOL. I also do not appreciate links to a solution which is are basically a $20 a month to replace a product that was suppose to be a "forever" license.

My License IS A FOREVER LICENSE. IT IS IN THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. NOW FOREVER WITHOUT SUPPORT, WHICH IS FINE BY ME. I AM A SOFTWARE ENGINEER AND AUTHOR AND I JUST NEED THE EDITOR TO WORKING. I WILL FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THIS TO WORK WITHOUT ADOBE IF NECESSARY. THE ADOBE SUPPORT FOR NON-SUBSRIPTION CUSTOMERS IS TERRIBLE AND WITHOUT THE COMMUNITY, I WOULD NOT BE HERE.

I just realized that all these sealed Adobe XI version 11.0.00 sealed for sale on Amazon and eBay are pirate generated packages. Just because they are sealed doesn't make them genuine, sealing machines are a dime a dozen.
So Adobe is correct to invalidate these bogus Acrobat XI serial numbers.
I do wish that Adobe had a reasonably priced Acrobat Writer with a perpetual license - I do not buy software by subscription.
