Question

Adobe Acrobat Reader breaks Task View functionality in Win10

Adobe Acrobat Reader Continuous Release Version 2023.006.20380 64 bit.

When Acrobat Reader is running on one desktop (e.g. Desktop 1) and a pdf is opened on another desktop (e.g. Desktop 2) it opens on the Desktop where Adobe Reader was running (in this example, Desktop 1) rather than on the current desktop.

Other Apps I have tried including Microsoft Edge, Firefox and Outlook, open up a new instance of the app on the current desktop.

Thank you.

Hi @rgdobie

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Would you mind sharing more details about the steps you are doing to open the PDF on desktop 2? Do you have Acrobat Reader installed on desktop 2? Please share the screen recording of the steps you are doing for more clarity?

Please try to install the Acrobat Reader application on desktop 2 using the direct link https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and try to open the PDF and see if that helps.

Hi Amal,

I did my best to record the steps to a video but it was too big for the server and taking up too much of my day☹

I am opening the file by double clicking on the filename as Adobe Acrobat Reader is my default application for opening pdfs.

When you ask if I have Acrobat Reader installed on Desktop 2, I fear that you are misunderstanding Task View – Acrobat Reader is installed for the current user which makes it available on any desktop used under Task View.

Likewise I would not bother installing Acrobat Reader under Desktop 2 (but you may if it helps you).

Perhaps you could try to replicate the issue on your machine ? (You don’t say that you were not able to.)

Regards

Richard
