The September 14 Adobe Acrobat DC Update - 2021.007/20091 has introduced an issue when opening an FDF file outside of Acrobat (such as by Double-Clicking the FDF file in Windows Explorer) on Windows 10. Every time this is attempted, Windows reinstalls the Update before opening the PDF associated with the FDF file. This has never happened before (and not with the previous version 2021.005.20060).
Until this is fixed, is there a way to revert to Version 2021.005.20060?

I am also experiencing this issue - since applying 2021.007.20091 update, if Acrobat is launch through any of its shortcuts (start menu, desktop) it will run the installer every time before the application opens. However, if you open a PDF document directly (without Acrobat being opened first) and you have the file association set, it will open the document in Acrobat without running the installer first.
I suspected this could be due to a new version of Adobe Customization Wizard being released, and that my previous MST was corrupted, but I even re-downloaded and packaged the base versions with the new Customization Wizard and the problem still persists. I even attempted the installation on a cleanly build VMs (Windows 10 1909 and 20H2) with the same results.
Any help/fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

We’ve done the same. Also, on the same Windows 10 Enterprise version. I've spent an hour chatting with support, no resolution!

I have no problem launching Acrobat from any source. I have no problem opening PDF documents with any method. I only have the issue when opening FDF files outside of Acrobat.

Hi Chris,
Saw the same issue on one of my client's computers - turns out the Shortcut (in this case Pinned to the Task Bar) was pointed towards something involving Internet Explorer.
Regenerating a Desktop Shortcut pointing to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
solved the Shortcut (not the FDF) problem.

Adobe has confirmed this bug - when will we see a patch or workaround?

I found that this applies to Reader as well. This is why it's critical that we can always revert back. Since we use fdf generated forms, this has nearly crippled our business. 7+ minutes to print a form rather than seconds.

I had a remote session with Adobe yesterday. THERE IS A WAY TO ROLLBACK! Here it is:
1. Uninstall Adobe - DO NOT RESTART PC
2. Download Acrobat Pro DC Installer from this site https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html
Unzip file, Go to the Adobe folder - run AdobePro.msi
3. DO NOT RESTART PC - Open the newly installed Adobe, go to Edit - Preferences - Updater - Uncheck Auto Update
4. Install the July 2021 update from here - https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/continuous/dccontinuousjuly2021qfe... DO NOT RESTART PC
5. Repeat STEP 3

TEMPORARY WORKAROUND: I found a free PDF reader to use while they work out this bug. I had to do something because it was cripping our business. Gaaiho Reader opens FDF files with no issue. We only use FDF for generating a printable form, so this may not be a good workaround for some. It was a quick install as opposed to jumping through hoops to revert Acrobat. At least we are up and running until I can go back to Acrobat when this is resolved.
