Adobe Acrobat X Pro black desktop icons

Hi,
I've had the same issue with Adobe CS6 and Acrobat X Pro. I'd had the zoom setting to 115% and slowly the desktop icons would change from first page previews, to Acrobat icons, and then to the black box. As I was using the computer, I'd notice the desktop icons "blink" every now & then. With that the Acrobat icons would slowly begin to change to black icons.
I'm using an HP Z2 Mini G5
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz
RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
When I first installed Adobe I started with (parts) of CS4 Design Pro (Photoshop, DreamWeaver, and Flash) and also to get the base Acrobat 9. I then installed the CS6 update (giving me Acrobat X Pro (10.1.16).
Then, after all the icons were black, Acrobat wouldn't open the files (though the system said it was "running").
I uninstalled all of Adobe apps and re-installed CS4 (to begin) / CS6 following, and then uninstalled CS4. I've now reset display to 100%.
The past couple days I've noticed my screen icons "blink" once... which they were doing before. The Adobe icons started going black again (two so far).
Not sure if this matters but... I was looking at settings for sound as I wanted to adjust basic mouse/speaker sounds. When I happened to select "Manage Sound Devices" and chose "Disable" for microphone, suddenly all of the desktop .pdf icons went black! I've tried changing it back but no luck.
Please tell me there's a logical solution for this and it's not because the operating system is Windows 10.
