You won't be able to do most of those things in Reader. Acrobat X Pro was around $600, Reader is free. The current product, Acrobat DC, is by subscription, about $20 per month.

Acrobat X has been obsolete a long, long time. It was replaced by Acrobat XI (also obsolete) over 10 years ago.

What prompted this? New Mac?

Got new laptop - didn't have Adobe on it, forced to download Reader DC which totally change all my .pdfs - struggling to figure out how to do things in Reader that I was doing in X Pro.  Don't mind learning however, not at expense of being able to work with older documents.  Thanks for your reply.
