I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, version 9.5.5 on my laptop.  My windows version is Windows 10.  When I attempt to scan from my HP printer, Adobe cannot locate the HP printer.. I  cannot scan.  When I open PDF document  in adobe and print  it to my HP printer, no problem.  So I know that my printer is connected to my laptop.  How do I fix this?

Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Windows 10. Your options are to either downgrade to a supported operating system version, or to upgrade Acrobat to at least Acrobat XI (not even Acrobat X is supported on Windows 10).

I realize this is an old thread, but I've just encountered this same problem with my Brother printer (Acrobat 9 and Windows 10 Pro).  Several points:

  1. New problem since I changed from AT&T to Xfinity.
  2. I can print wireless but not scan.
  3. I can print AND scan with wired hookup (ethernet).
  4. Considering these points, there's obviously no compatibility problem between Acrobat and Windows.

If you note that the HP printer is not scanning, then you can install the HP printer print and scan doctor app. Once you’ve finished the download, run the app from the region and check for all the potential scanning issues. To fix these issues, you can call the expert team and sort out the problems regarding the HP printer won’t scan. Check the drivers that you’ve installed already since they are vital for the printer’s functioning. Finally, click Fix scanning and get on with the process

Acrobat XI or below are the older versions of Acrobat which are end of support now. So I suggest you, please use the trial version of latest Acrobat DC- https://acrobat.adobe.com/in/en/free-trial-download.html.

Also, you can try some troubleshooting options available in the link https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-scanner-issues-acrobat.html.

Thanks.

Try updating your printer driver directly from HP Support.
