Adobe PDF printer redirect in Remote DesktopConnection broken after Windows 10 ver 1803 update

All was working fine until Windows 10 pro updated in April 2018 ver 1803 on my desktop computer

Previously I could print Adobe PDF's from the remote desktop connection, and it would redirect a PDF to my local laptop for fast viewing and editing.

I did this by using the Adobe PDF (redirected 2) printer on the RDC/RDP screen.

( Viewing and navigating and editing PDF images over RDC/RDP is uselessly slow, as the screen must continously refresh images, that's why I do this on the local laptop, not on the remote desktop. Hence I have Adobe X on installed on the laptop and Reader 9 was on the desktop PC. )

After the update on the desktop PC, the PDF print "save file" dialog box appeared on my remote desktop screen, not on my laptop. This means that redirection back to the laptop no longer worked, and it was treating it like a printer on the remote desktop PC. ( not good)

After reading some forums I tried a few things. I uninstalled Reader 9 from the desktop PC, and installed Acrobat X to match my laptop, just in case the drivers were causing this. But this did not fix it. The Adobe PDF (redirected n ) insisted it was not from a redirection. ( n = a random session number created by RDC/RDP )

All other printer redirections still work, only the Adobe PDF ( redirected n ) printer is broken.

Have I  missed anything?

Revisiting this thread.  My redirect adobe no longer works on Windows 11 RDP client and Windows 10 RDP host.  Works intermittently.  Other print to pdf apps don't work as well - file sizes can be significantly larger and no auto-open of new file.

Windows 10 is not like older versions of Windows. Check it out: Microsoft have said there will never be a Windows 11. Instead “Windows 10” will continuously change and evolve. A new system may greet you any morning and old apps broken. This is a new world which will lead us all into subscriptions for everything. Welcome or not.

I don‘t believe software makers should chase Microsoft or Apple for free, because that amounts to the rest of the industry subsidising Apple and Microsoft.

Ended up using Microsoft print to PDF, which comes with Windows 10.

This redirects back to the local laptop with a notification pop up.

The MS Print to PDF file is larger than Adobe, so I use "save as" in Acrobat to re compress.

Can be saved to favourite cloud or VPN/sync back, or mapped drive back to remote Win 10 desktop for secure central backup.

WARNING

The broken Adobe PDF (redirected n )  printer will without warning DELETE an existing PDF of the same name without saving the new output - nasty little windows 10 bug.

Any other suggestions welcome

You‘re using a very old and unsupported Acrobat. If fixes for new versions of Windows are needed, you won’t get them.
