Adobe PDF / Scroll bars still missing

I've looked at all the posts and their answers. It's very frustrating. I've done all the suggestions. Still no scrollbar. If I adjust the page size manually -- pull it in or out -- the bars appear for a few seconds then disappear. I can't grab them.

I cannot scroll up/down or side to side. Mac Ventura. Acrobat Pro version 2023.006.20320

Any other ideas or will there be an update to fix?

Thanks for the work you did with this.

The thing is, when I view a document like your 2-page doc, I don't have the scroll bar. But I guess this is because you have continuous scrolling enabled, and not single page view.

Adding my voice to the chorus: even if it worked as described, the "modern scrolling experience" would significantly slow down my team's workflow. Adobe, for pete's sake, DO NOT FORCE THIS ON US. If you feel the need  to add this feature, please also include the option to use legacy scrolling behavior. I work on 600+-page documents in PDF, not having a scrollbar I can just see and grab 10 times a minute is a productivity killer.

Unfortunately I can not install an older version due to how my account is managed. Missing scroll bars is definitely a productivity killer. I hope this is resolved soon!

The removal of the permanently present left-side scroll bar has proven to be a significant hindrance in my work process. As a user who relies heavily on a Wacom Pen, the scroll bars are essential for seamless navigation both vertically and horizontally. This change has resulted in a decrease in my production speed, affecting not only my efficiency but also my overall output.

I implore you to consider reinstating the left-side scroll bar as an integral feature. This adjustment would not only enhance the user experience but also serve as a testament to Adobe's commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its user base.

Hi Amal, I work with Wacom Intuos Pro and pen. Since the scroll bar is no longer there, I have to connect a mouse to the Mac especially for this function. Please bring back the scroll bar so I don't have to switch between pen and mouse all the time. Thank you very much and best regards

Hi there

Following the latest macOS guidelines, we have completely overhauled the Acrobat scrolling framework for Mac as part of our September '23 release. This fundamental transition from NSView to NSScrollView significantly impacts the behaviour of the Mac user interface. It introduces a modern scrolling experience that is responsive during active use and eliminates the need for excessive space.

This issue is already reported to our engineering team and is being worked on.

The fix will be available in the coming updates.

Thanks for your time and patience

Regards

Amal

The September 2023 update does NOT in any way what-so-ever provide a USEFUL, nor space-saving, "modern scrolling experience that is responsive during active use and eliminates the need for excessive space." Removing the scroll bars was a foolish and wrong-headed mistake. Your core users are professionals who use - and pay a lot of money for - these tools for WORK. We are not playing with ipads or phones and are for the most part working on desktop computers with a mouse or wacom pen. This flaw is not a small problem that can turfed to a future "update" - it's a flaw that needs to be fixed NOW.

This is hopeless. YOu'vew been saying the same thing since mid September.

None of my other software has been affected in this way. Please – when will it be fixed!

LOL!

And WHEN will a scroll bar be added to the fonts list in CC?

Guess I'm just an old-fashioned guy who enjoyed an old-fashioned scrolling experience. One that worked and made it possible to move around a page as needed.

Who out there is actually using and enjoying this supposed "modern scrolling experience" (what does that even mean?)... Is Adobe running completely on articifical intelligence (AI) now? Is anyone in charge there?

Adding my voice to this conversation.

Acrobat is unusable for me without scrollbars, therefore I'm no longer using it.

It's mind boggling that such a fundamental aspect of a user interface has just been removed. To make matters worse, it's been at least 6 weeks that people have been reporting this issue and nothing has been resolved.

Perhaps this is a minor issue for Adobe, but I can tell you that it is no minor issue for me.

I will be cancelling my subscription if such fundamental issues can't be resolved in adequate time.

It took me awhile to even find this thread with Adobe admitting that the scroll bars are missing, I was wondering if others had the problem. That Adobe sent out a version without this most basic navigational tool functioning is mind boggling. Not to mention that haven't fixed it now six weeks later.

My thanks to the people who posted how to download Acrobat 2020. The mind does indeed boggle at the notion that this is a "modern scrolling experience" or that the scroll bars took up excessive room. Don't the engineers have anything better to do? Whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

My understanding is that the current scrolling -- or lack thereof -- in Acrobat is a bug, not a feature. However, as described by Adobe, the "modern scrolling experience" sounds like it will infvolve scrollbars that are not perennially present. As another poster stated, most folks using Acrobat in a prefessional setting are NOT using it on a tablet or mobile, and it will be a productivity-killer to not have always-visible scrollbars. So, it's broken now, but likely even when they fix it it's going to be a downgrade from the way most professional users want it to work. It would be nice if Adobe would either abandon this idea or at least make it optional.

I'm still wondering why they thought it was a good idea in the first place. Perhaps software designers have a compulsion to tinker. I've downloaded the 2020 version and am hoping for the best.

Not a great solution at all to take away the ability to scroll. If that was the plan, then at least have an option to add it back in if it doesn't work for you with a command or something. Not a functual change that is ideal. Please fix Adobe.

I agree, this scroll bar should be an option as it is on Macs.

My scroll bars went missing when I reverted back from the latest Adobe Acrobat upgrade which is totally unusable.

Producing an accessable PDF is aready and difficult task to begin with when walking the tag tree, remediating errors. Opening the tags, reading order panel create extreemly long threads where I am FOURCED to use the keyboard up/down arrows. INSANE!

I ask, with the exception of those "out on the field" most of us who use these Adobe programs on a regular basis, Adobe, what makes you think we want to use these sophisticated programs on a tablet? I mean unless we're idilly just playing around with your programs.

This is such a basic function to remove – 'overhauled the Acrobat scrolling framework for Mac.. for a modern scrolling experience that is responsive during active use and eliminates the need for excessive space'. I work with a pen tablet so there is no track ball to activate the scroll bar. The only way to get it to come up is to use the page/ up and down arrows and try and grab it. It doesn't work for scrolling the document or thumbnails. It's an entirely useless 'innovation' that has taken away the most basic function of navigation. Does Adobe actually user test any of their applications with professionals who actually use their products? Stop implementing useless solutions to problems that don't exist.

I have the same problem. I wonder, is it so difficult to give the option "Always show scroll bar" in the settings. The people who want a modern scrolling experience can ignore this option 😉

Since I need Acrobat to work and not to play, I hope.
that Adobe will bring this possibility soon and I can work efficiently and fast again!

This entire thread from hundreds of customers complaining about an issue that is important proves that Adobe only cares about profit, not their customers. If we all cancel our plans, maybe, just maybe they will listen!

Amazing, I had to update recently to fix another bug, and now this? As stated by another User, at least make it an option we'll have to dig around & enable every update to restore the scroll bars! And "excessive space" was the reasoning? It's what - 6-8 pixles wide? Now I have to open the Page Thumbnails on the left so go ahead and see how much space THAT takes up!!
