I've looked at all the posts and their answers. It's very frustrating. I've done all the suggestions. Still no scrollbar. If I adjust the page size manually -- pull it in or out -- the bars appear for a few seconds then disappear. I can't grab them.
I cannot scroll up/down or side to side. Mac Ventura. Acrobat Pro version 2023.006.20320
Any other ideas or will there be an update to fix?

Finaly fixed in the latest February update!
There is a new Preference under Page Display: Always show Scroll bars!
And also set the preference to Enable scrolling under Page Display, Page Layout, and the we are finally(!) good to go!

Thanks for the work you did with this.
The thing is, when I view a document like your 2-page doc, I don't have the scroll bar. But I guess this is because you have continuous scrolling enabled, and not single page view.

I NEED HELP--the workaround I was using to get the scroll bar back stopped working today! (System Settings | Appearance | Show Scroll Bars | click Automatically based on mouse or trackpad, then When scrolling, then Always.) I can't work like this--I routinely edit 500-page books, and not being able to move around in them as I wish makes my job nearly impossible. Anyone have a different workaround I can try?

I am totally with you on this. I too edit large publications, (although not as big as 500 pages), which has significantly slowed my production. One thing I noticed today was they moved the checkmark in the Comments section and put it under the ... menu. Again, these little changes are infuriating and slow me down considerably. I googled "Adobe Acrobat alternative" and they all were paid programs. 😕 I'm so close to calling Adobe customer service every single day until they fix this disastrous downgrade. And I just noticed that this whole thread has the title of "Solved." Maybe Adobe isn't even reading these. 😤

They probably think it's solved because Amal said it would be. And yet it isn't.

Hi there
This issue is known to us and our engineering team is working on it.
The fix will be available in the future updates.

Hi Amal
Do you know the time frame for this "improvement" (i.e. reversal of a bad decision).
Clearly, there are a lot of us using Adobe products on Macs – back in the day Mac users seemed your main target audience (Yes, I'm old!). It's really not great customer service.
But thanks for responding!

If you go to the Preferences > Commenting tab, there is a preference for 'show checkbox in comment note' (this is true for Acrobat 2020, which I have had to revert to until the scrollbar disaster is fixed). Solved this issue for me!

Adding yet ANOTHER voice to this.....
Dear Adobe engineers... do you need us to fix the damn code for you??!
Also, Adobe engineers.. stop doing moronic things for the sake of doing something/anything to validate your existence. I mean it, fulfill your ridiculous need for validation in life some other way.
I'd really like for everyone who is forced to subscribe to this shitshow to be able charge back all the lost hours for dealing with this "engineering" bullsh!t.

Who is the idiot who removed this essential feature in Acrobat??? Adobe, wake up! Which feature will be removed next? Colors? Fonts? I need to be productive.

If you follow the exact steps mentioned at the bottom of the post in the following link (do not forget the terminal command!) you can solve this. Bit tricky but I did exactly what it said there (I used XCode for the plist, but hou use any plist ecitor) and it is now solved. Not saying that this a very user friendly solution by the way...

If this is a "fix" anyone care to make an Apple Screen Recording on how you do this?
I don't understand how to "fix" this manually. Better yet, any chance Adobe can write this into a new Acrobat for desktop upgrade? I'm a graphic designer, not an IT or Programmer.
- I found the com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist but I can't open it.
- I cannot find DC AVGeneral & create plist key -> HonorSystemScrollerPref
- I know what the Terminal app is (though I've often do not have not had luck using it)
- I see Xcode is a downloadable Apple application.
- No, I don't have IT support. The company I work for is MSO Windows based and does not support Mac OS.

Yes, I know, not a real solution for many, you have to have some IT knowledge. So indeed the solution has to come from Adobe. But for those that are a bit handy this will work.

Hey Linda,
The workaround steps provided was a bit inconsiderate considering the customer base (i.e., most won't be programmers). Poor formatting and unclear.
I hope my step-by-step helps.
1) Download & install FREE TRIAL 'PlistEdit Pro' (https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/plisteditpro/). [Alternatively use 'Xcode'. But it will be significantly easier and fail-proof to use 'PlistEdit Pro', because the steps are simpler.]
2) Locate the .plist and right click it, to open with 'PlistEdit Pro' (or, 'Xcode').
3) Once the .plist has opened, locate "DC", and click to expand that entry.
4) From the expanded list, locate "AVGeneral", then click to expand that entry.
5) If using 'PlistEdit Pro':
From that expanded list, locate "HonorOSTheme". Right click it and press duplicate.
Rename the duplicated entry as "HonorSystemScrollerPref", then click to expand it.
Check to see if the two items you see underneath are exactly the same as follows (or, as you see on the screenshot attached).
0 Number 0
1 Boolean YES
Press ⌘-s to save. [Alternatively, go to 'File', then save.]
If using 'Xcode':
Keep the "AVGeneral" entry selected (highlighted). To the right of the "AVGeneral" heading, you will see (+) and (-) icons. Click (+) once to create a new entry, which you should see appear as "New item" right beneath the "AVGeneral" heading.
Rename the "New item" as "HonorSystemScrollerPref", and keep it selected (highlighted). You will again see (+) and (-) icons to the right. Press (+) twice, to create two new entries underneath. They will appear as "Item 0" and "Item 1".
Change the "Item 0" and "Item 1" details using the up & down arrowheads (⌃) to be exactly the same as follows (or, as you see on the screenshot attached).
0 Number 0
1 Boolean YES
Press ⌘-s to save. [Alternatively, go to 'File', then save.]
6) The final step! 😃
Open the 'Terminal' program. Simply copy & paste in the following:
sudo killall cfprefsd
Then hit enter.
Then 'Terminal’ will spit out "Password".
[NOTE: whatever you type in from this point, will not show as you type in. But please do not worry. If you get it wrong, it will ask again with "Password". And you can always repeat this step.]
Simply type in your computer login/admin password, then hit enter. If the password is correct with no mistakes, it will just show a rectangle after your username. It is done!
7) Last but not least, open a loooong .pdf document and see if it worked. 😅🥹

I can't even begin to express how irrational this entire thing is. How does a giant like Adobe release software with missing scrollbars? AFAIK reading PDFs without them is borderline impossible (on a Mac anyway).
An Adobe rep is really here promoting this Terminal fix?
I have another idea:

Thank you so much Frans for posting this!!! 🙏🏻
I have just implemented this "work😡around" and CAN CONFIRM IT WORKS!!! 👍🏼🙌🏼👏🏼
[I used 'PlistEdit Pro' to edit the .plist, because my Xcode kept crashing.]
I am a graphics-tablet pen user, and the missing scrollbar's been killing me.
I've been getting by just barely, by customising a couple of spare keys to make pages go up & down (and grabbing the scrollbar when it appear for the split second then 🤦🏻♀️).
Every adjective to describe this situation is an understatement.
While at it, Adobe might like to make zoom functionality disappear as well?

OK, but that's a $30 app users have to buy just to restore a crucial navigation function in a piece of software that has become a cornerstone in today's design/review/edit process, thanks to Adobe's decades of effort to make it so. Yes, I can and will spare $30 to fix this (like you, Xcode isn't working in my setup), but I shouldn't have to.

Hey, 😊
Don't need to spend any money! I used the FREE TRIAL of the app.
Totally agree with you and everyone here. We absolutely shouldn't have to resort to these crazy workarounds 😡😡😡!!!
Hopefully this will be the one and the only ever time we'll be messing with .plist!!!
At least for now with this, we can have our productivity back and get some work done without pulling all our hair out...

@Keurim Thank you for taking the time to clarify the steps. I bookmarked this solution for when I have time. As some have mentioned, I also use a tablet/pen and limped through finalizing accessable PDF. Walking the tag tree needs scrolling. Arrrrg!
For the time being, I have to move onto figuing out all the new stuff added in Photoshop.

I cannot find a com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences/. What to do next? Run the sudo killall cfprefsd anyway?

Are you perhaps using Acrobat Reader and not Acrobat? If so you should look for com.Adobe.Reader.plist
