Question

Adobe Pro 2017, versions and backwards compatibility

Most recipients are fine with my saved pdf's coming in the default version 1.5 from my Acrobat Pro 2017 (11.0.23). Still I have one recipient insisting the file must show 1.7, in Document properties.

But I wonder if that is necessary, i.e that my 1.5 is actually 1.7 also? That Acrobat Pro 2017 is saving as pdf version 1.5 as default is to ensure backwards compatibilty all the way backwards, also for 1.7? What I want to know is if the standard save 1.5 also is good for 1.7, so that I can tell him there is no need for special treatment, because 1.7 is also in there. That I can assure the recipient that there is no "loss" for the customer that I just save as standard, which show PDF version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x).

Thanks

Try to find out from the user exactly what feature of PDF 1.7 they are missing in PDF 1.5 and how that affects their ability to use the PDF file. PDF 1.5 files meet all the requirements for PDF 1.7 and as such, unless there is some PDF 1.7 feature that they want/need, they need to advise you as to exactly what that is. Bet they can't give you an intelligible answer!

Thank you Dov, interesting information and suggestion. Will indeed consider doing just that.
