80% of my organization seems to have automatically installed the 64bit reader ugprade which combines Acrobat DC with Reader.
How do I force this ugprade for the rest of them? I am having difficulty with managing default PDF readers now because of this split.

Hi there
Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.
The 64-bit application is a unified application for Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC. If you have installed Acrobat Reader DC 64-bit and you purchase an Acrobat DC subscription, the Acrobat Reader DC 64-bit application will upgrade to become a fully functional Acrobat DC 64-bit application
For more info, please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/about-acrobat-reader-dc-migration-to-64-bit.html and see if that helps.

This doesn't help me.
The 80% of the computers that have 64-bit Reader are not paying for DC.
I have tried re-installing Reader many times and it keeps installing 32-bit. How does Reader decide whether to install 32 vs 64bit?

Hi there
Would you mind sharing the link you are using to download the Acrobat Reader DC?
Please remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html, reboot the computer once, and reinstall the application using the link https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Were you able to actually get assistance for this and figure out a solution?? I'm running into the same problem since 64bit is not yet released for the US and Microsoft requires the 64bit version to be run with Office365 64bit.

Before you force anything, check plugins. These users MIGHT be using vital plugins to Reader (eg for secure data access) with they have installed in 32-bits. You need to confirm 64-bit plugins exists, and carefully deploy the required ones to each user.
