Adobe Standard DC

I am the administrator of our adobe account. I just purhcased Adobe Standard DC for a colleague.  She is still unable to open PDFs. She gets an error message that says that she needs to upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader.  Is Standard DC not the latest version of reader?

Yes, it is. Where is she opening the file, though? Maybe inside a browser window, instead of in Acrobat?
