An internal error occured.

Hello,
I am on Windows 11 version 10.0.22000 Build 22000. My Adobe Acrobat version is 2022.002.20212.
Whenever I click on or group select a/ a number of pdf file(s), I got the "An internal error occured" error message. I therefore cannot perform actions like copy or cut files. It sometimes crashes the File Explorer as well.
I have tried the solution in another post, but nothing worked. I have also tried uninstalling and re-installing the program using AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2021 but the problem persisted.
Please help! Thank you.

Hi @Son5C1C
Sorry to hear about the trouble caused.
This known issue has already been escalated to our engineering team. That team has been working on it.
As soon as the fix is available, we'll keep you posted.
Thanks,

Hi there,
Commenting to add that I'm experiencing the same issue. Acrobat is the only product I use from Adobe, and it been almost completely non-functional for at least several weeks now.
As I'm paying a subscription to have access to a non-functional application, how would I go about getting a refund or a credit for this month's service?

Posting here for those who may have missed it.
@markelrayesfound a solution on another thread.
"I FOUND A SOLUTION.
I had to go C:\Users\[me]\AppData\Local and right click the Adobe folder, click properties and go to security tab. I had a bunch of left-over "Account Unknown" listed besides my three main ones (System, [me], Admin). I deleted all the account unknowns."
If you can't delete all the Account Unknown files through "EDIT", select "ADVANCED" and remove them.
I didn't even have to reboot after doing this and my error disappeared.

Thank you for this fix! It was exactly what I needed.

This worked for me on windows 10, some of the unknown accounts can't be deleted until you check 'Deny' then apply and go back into the remove window.

Thank you, once you've fixed the problem please let me know. In the meantime I guess I will have to resort to other PDF readers.

Hi there,
Just checking to see if you have released an update to resolve this issue yet.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat DC and am still getting this error.
Windows 10 64-bit
Continuous Release Version 2022.003.20258 64-bit
If I open Acrobat, I don't get the error, only when trying to preview a pdf in my preview pane while using windows explorer.
One article on the forum suggested installing 32-bit instead as a temporary fix, will this work? I'm hesitant as I've had issues with other software when installing 32-bit.
Thanks in Advance.

Installing the 32 bit version does not fix the problem!

Started having this issue over the past few weeks, tried uninstalling, using Adobe Cleaner, fully deleting Acrobat folders from program files to then do a clean install but still the issue persists. I can't click on a PDF without explorer hanging for a good few minutes, which is so disruptive in a work environment!
This was reported a month ago, repsonded to by an Adobe employee a month ago, with no update since which is absolutely shocking for something that's a paid service, and aint cheap!

I agree. I deleted the program files to do a clean install too and it was also useless. NOTHING works. Not even my IT department can help me. My IT department changed it to where pdfs open in Chrome rather than Acobrat and even when I open them in Chrome an INTERAL ERROR still comes up! Today I am going to uninstall Acrobat AGAIN and then just try to download locally adobe reader or Foxit PhantomPDF just so I have something at least. I can't even email pdf files at this point. Soon as I attached more than 1 pdf outlook freezes turns black and crashes. Yesterday I had to have my project manager email pdf files for me since I couldn't. Today working on some InDesign brochures and I am going to have my colleague export it to pdf for me because at this point I dont even trust doing that. I am getting SOOOOOOOOOO frustrated.

It would be different if we all asking for refunds until the problem was fixed. Speak with your wallet!

So I am on an enterprise plan and I am the only PC user. The other people on my team on MACs do not appear to be having the issue. Fortunately at least they can export and send pdfs for me but its just allaround inconvenient for our entire creative team.

Well there's your solution, buy a Mac... But yeah same here, a number of Mac users having no issue and just me at the end of our pipeline on PC causing absolute disruption!

Hi, is there an update regarding this issue? I had the same problem and it's been going on for more than two weeks now: whenever I click on a PDF file on Windows 10 file explorer I get the message saying "an internal error occurred" and my windows file explorer crashes, I cannot select several PDF files, copy or paste them easily as this makes the file explorer crash and I started having issues exporting PDF files from InDesign.
I have tried uninstalling, repairing, and all the other possible fixes that have been suggested. I don't see any "Account unknown" within my Adobe folder as it has been suggested. Please can somebody help me? this is becoming very frustrating

Hi Marta, are you sure that you went into the right place?
Are you running Windows 10?
I've attached a visual of the steps.
You need to right-click on the Adobe folder to show the menu in Step 1. In step 5 click Disable Inheritance and Apply then you should be able to delete the last Account Unknown.
If this doesn't work for you, I'll scratch around and see what else it could be.

I was about to say, Disable Inheritance! My issue returned and that was why, deleted the random users and disabled inheritance this time...
