Anyone have an issue with superscript automatically changing to subscript in comments?

Hi,

I am a copy editor/proofreader, and I work in PDF markups in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.

Sometimes, I need to copy existing text from a PDF and paste it into a comment to make edits or rearrange the wording. If that copy already contains a special character (em dash, en dash, superscripted number, trademark symbol) or if I need to “clear formatting” because the text is in white, anything I superscript within that copy changes to subscript.

So for example, if the PDF says:

It’s easy — just go …

Now, let’s say this copy is in white in the PDF and I need to add a footnote. I copy the phrase, use the “Add Note to Replace Text” tool, paste the copy, and do Text Style > Clear Formatting. Then I add a “1” after “easy.” If I select the “1” and do Text Style > Superscript or do Ctrl-Shift-+, it superscripts the “1.” However, as soon as I click away from the comment box, the superscripted copy changes to subscript.

In the above example, I know there would be easier ways to do this, but I am just using a simplified example to make it easier to explain.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Thanks!

I see this in some comments, but not all.  Sometimes Acrobat reader lets me put in superscripts and doesn't change them after posting the comment.  However, I found that when Acrobat reader doesn't leave superscripts unchanged, if I create the comment in a rich text document, copy the comment, and paste it in an open new comment in the pdf, the superscripts and subscripts are preserved.  Go figure.

I am having the same problem when commenting. Will Adobe ever fix this?

I use latest Mac OS14.6.1 and Adobe Acrobat Reader 2024.004.20243.

Here is the problem simply put:

When I set text style in a comment to superscript, Adobe displays it as subscript in the comments column.

So 5^2 would save as 5subscript2. When I open the comment, it displays correctly onscreen (5^2), but when saved it shows as 5subscript2 in the comments column. [Unsurprisingly I cannot format superscript & subscript in this note to illustrate the problem properly!]

Will Adobe ever offer a solution? Does anyone NOT have this problem??

Yes, i have this exact problem!
I can't put anything in superscript without it "falling" tu subscript, when using the text substitution tool, and i edit chemistry books...
Befor the update, i used to comment in the text substt box, with the proper superscript, and then copy paste to the original comment. But now this doesn't work anymore.
