Broken straight lines

After editing a PDF, formerly solid straight lines now appear broken and jagged when printed.

Also, how thick are the lines? This can happen when the lines are very thin.

    How are you editing the PDF?

    If the solid straight line is vector and you are converting it to raster, that could introduce jagged edges, particularly on diagonal lines. How does it look on-screen, when you zoom in?
