Bug Report Template for Adobe (Acrobat Pro)

Subject: PostScript PDF Conversion Fails for Outlook Emails Using Aptos Font in Office 365

Description:
When printing an Outlook email (Office 365) using the “Adobe PDF” printer, the process fails with the following error:

vbnet
CopyEdit
%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%% Aptos not found, using Courier. %%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%% %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

This results in:

  • No PDF being produced.

  • Distiller or the output file staying open or looping.

  • Users having to manually terminate the Adobe process.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Outlook (Office 365, default font is Aptos).

  2. Print email using “Adobe PDF” printer.

  3. Observe the error in the generated .log file or stuck Distiller window.

Expected result: PDF should be created successfully.

Actual result: PDF fails due to missing Aptos font (not recognized by Distiller/PostScript).

Environment:

  • Outlook Version: Microsoft 365 / Office 365 (2024–2025)

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro Version: [Insert version here]

  • Windows 10/11

Request:
Please update Adobe PDF PostScript printer or Distiller to support Microsoft’s new default Aptos font or provide a recommended workaround (other than Save As PDF).

Reference: This issue appears across multiple users and versions. Save As PDF works fine, indicating the PostScript engine is the root cause.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

To address the issue of Adobe PDF creation failing with Microsoft's new default font, Aptos, you need to adjust the Adobe PDF printer settings to avoid relying solely on system fonts. Specifically, you should disable the "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts" setting within the Adobe PDF printer properties. This forces the PDF to embed the necessary font information, preventing font substitution or errors during conversion.

  1. Open the PDF, go to > Print
  2. Select Printer 'Adobe PDF', then click Properties, and untick 'Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts'.
