Can I create a fillable pdf Form with auto repeat fields?

Hello,

I am not sure I can describe this properly but will give it a try in the hope someone can help me as have tried all other avenues for help without success.

I need to create fillable form where people can enter their family details. Name, Address, and forenames. But, this is where it gets difficult, how many people are in a family? It is essential that all members off the family are listed. If we chose a default of say room for 5 family members, what happens when there are 7 in a family (this does happen on occasions) if we say allocate 10 lines per family to allow for this all we end up with is a load of wasted space and a document that could be ages long for no reason as sometimes up to 16 families may have to have their details entered into one document.

So, my question is this, is it possible to create a fillable form that asks forte information above but also can ask, "do you need more lines" and then create those lines "on the fly" as the data is being entered.

I hope this makes some sense and that someone out there may be able to help

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any suggestions that may be sent

Elizabeth

Hello Thom

Thank you for your response. I think possibly the hidden blank area could work, will have to give it a try….are there any online tutorials on how to do this ? Am only just getting into cresting fillable forms.

Spooky about the name! ;o)

The answer is yes and no.  If you are creating a regular Acrobat PDF Form, then the only realistic solution is to create extra pages of fields with a page template. You could have a blank area with hidden fields that are exposed by an "Add Lines" button, but you can't create a form where all the other fields shift down to make way for new fields.

This can be done with an AEM(LiveCycle) PDF form. But that's a different thing altogether.

You'll find plenty about showing and hiding fields in these forums, just do a search.  The particular issue you'll have is with any text and graphics that goes along with the fields. Your code will have to deal with everything related to the hidden fields.
