Can't (re)install Adobe Reader DC on Mac OS 10.12

This is the non cloud version. Just the reader.

Everything was working fine but DC said there was an update for my version (I don't have that number). I went to update that and kept getting an error message. After several attempts, I decided to trash DC and just download a fresh copy from Adobe.

The file downloaded fine but when I go to install, the installation hangs a little over half way through install, "Running package scripts" approximate install time 1 minute. I even let it go for an hour or so. When I go to quit the installer, it says it is busy, I then have to completely shut down my Mac and then restart. A force quit doesn't even help.

I even tried to install with no other applications running, just the installer.

So what I'd like to do is maybe un-install EVERY piece of whatever is left of any DC or pre DC versions of Reader and start over. Maybe there is something that is preventing the install, I don't know.

Unless there is another way. At this point, I might be ok with just using Preview. I should also not have attempted to do the update even though Adobe said to update. Really frustrating. Your help very much appreciated!

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in response.

Uninstalling Adobe Acrobat Reader DC  may cause a break in Safari functionality to read PDF files using Adobe Reader plugin. To resolve this, go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/  and remove AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin.

Please restart your system once you uninstall application completely.

Then try to install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC from this link: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Let us know how it goes.
