Since february I've been receiving complains from coworkers that they get this error when they try to use Comment" function in Adobe Reader on files generated by one of our software. It's a software that uses DevExpress to generate pdf files. After we generate them, we use Comment function in Adobe Reader to add our comments, and right after we click on Comment button we receive this error
But after we click ok we can add comments and we don't see any information missing, so it wasn't a big deal, just a nuisance. I even edited copy of this report that is generated and changed every font to Arial to test it, but it didn't fix it, it only changed that it cannot extract "DEVEXP+Arial,Bold". Here is font summary:
If you can provide me with some secure way to share you that pdf file then I can send you one, I can't publish it for everyone to see.

It appears that the software you're using to generate the PDF (DevExpress) is not embedding the fonts into the PDF, and that program is not an Adobe program.
Check in DevExpress to see if there is an option to embed fonts into the PDF at the time it's generated. I'm not familiar with DevExpress so I can't tell you where that option is located. You can also directly contact DevExpress for help with the fonts.
In the meantime, you can try these 2 work arounds:
Embed the fonts into the PDF.
But the best method is to find out how to embed the fonts with DevExpress, when the PDF is generated.

On my 2nd screenshot you can see that they are embedded...
Also we don't use Adobe Acrobat Pro, I can't download the trial because it wants to add my credit card number before I even can download it. I won't use my private card, and my work won't provide one for me just to test this.

Hi there
Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.
As described you are getting the above error message, this is an indication of the corrupt embedded font in the PDF file. Please try to recreate the PDF from the source file via the Adobe Acrobat Pro DC application and see if that helps.
Also please check out the similar discussion https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader-discussions/cannot-extract-the-embedded-font/td-p/1691... and see if that helps.

Amal
