Cannot open pdf.zip files

New Here ,
Aug 11, 2023 Aug 11, 2023

Hi

The past few days when I try to open a pdf.zip file I cannot open it and get the following error message:

Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open 'JobResults.zip' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachement and wasn't correctly decoded.)

As it's happened with several pdf.zip files I am sure it is my PC and not the files being emailed to  me.

I copied it to the Desktop and tried to open it there and got the same error message.

Help appreciated.

Thanks

Mel

Hi @Melanie31615728g35y

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Please try to unzip the files and save them to your computer locally and then try to open the PDF files with Acrobat Pro/Reader application and see if that works.

Let us know if you experience any trouble and need more help.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I was unable to unzip the file – The error message was:

Windows cannot complete the extraction.

The Compressed (zipped) Folder (then name of the folder in Sharepoint) is invalid.

Any thoughts?

My Sharepoint is also being weird so perhaps that’s the source of the problem although opening the zip files was a problem before the Sharepoint problem.

Thanks

Mel

Hi there

This seems to be a file issue on Windows, There isn't much that we can do. Please check the discussion https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-cannot-complete-the-extraction-the/78a... and see if that works.

Try changing your default app for .zip to File Explorer.

Hi @Melanie31615728g35y,

Hope you are doing well.

If you still experience the issue, try saving an offline copy of the zip file you were trying to access from Sharepoint.

Sharepoint is an online file sharing point and can cause issues on direct extraction of a file within the platform.

if you are accessing the location from your Windows File Explorer, right-click the zip file-> click "Always keep on this device." Once done, allow some time for the cloud icon to the right of the file name to change to a green check mark and then try extracting the file by right-clicking again and selecting "Extract All."

Hope this helps.

I was having the same problem.  I found a fix that worked for me:

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program and select the app you want for the .zip extension which is Windows Explorer.  I had Adobe as the previous program which was not working.  This worked for me.
