Cannot open .pdfs in Acrobat Pro

I have installed the most current version of acrobat pro. Whenever I try to open a .pdf, I get the following warning: "Adobe Acrobat cannot open <file name> because it is either not a suported fule type or because the file has been damaged . . ."

Do you get this message with all PDFs you try to open or just a specific one?

Mostly this is the case with newer pdfs. I was just able to open a pdf that is much older.
