Cannot preview pdf in file explorer on surface pro 11

New Here ,
Sep 14, 2024 Sep 14, 2024

On my surface pro (11) running on Snapdragon(R) X 10-core X Plus, I am not able to preview pdf in the file explorer. It shows the standard message <This file can't be previewed because of an error in the PDF Preview Handler.>  in the preview pane.

I have installed the acrobat reader and it is the default app to open pdfs.

The <Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer> in the Acrobat reader preference is unchecked and greyed out, therefore not selectable.

I have also another pdf utility but I don't think that is the issue, as I have the same installations on my old surface pro and PC and preview works fine.

Is the problem due to ARM? Is there a solution to this?

I resolved the issue by installing SumatraPDF and selecting the shell extension options during the installation process.

Hello!

I hope you're doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Could you let me know if you're still having this issue with the latest version of Acrobat? Please make sure you have the latest version installed, check for any pending updates from the Menu > check for updates, restart the machine after installing the updates and check.

Try the suggestions from the Adobe article and let us know how it goes: https://adobe.ly/3QLt7H3

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Thanks for the updated link.

Despite having a fully updated installation the preference "Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer" is still greyed out.

I got round this by using Windows Power Toys File Explorer options.

  1. Adobe Reader version (Help > About Adobe Acrobat Reader)
