Changing a pdf filliable form to a template so changes don't overwrite the master file.

How do I go about creating a pdf template.? Is there a particular format to use?

I've created an editable form by importing a word document using Adobe Acrobat XI pro and everything works fine. The form is going to be on a central sharedrive for others to use, however, i don't want anyone overwriting the master file? I need this form to be a template.

Any advice?

Set the file itself (and/or the folder it's placed in) as read-only.
