Changing the highlight tool

I'm having trouble with the highlight tool. It has suddenly defaulted to an oval shape which I do not want or like to use. Is it possible to change the shape of the tool to what it was before? 

I've been trying to figure this out for hours with no luck.

    It usually does that if there's no real text in the file (and therefore nothing to highlight), only images. Is that the case in your file? You can verify it by trying to select individual words with the Text Selection tool. If it doesn't work it means there's no text. You can try running the Recognize Text command to convert the text in the image to real text, and then the highlight tool will return to work normally.

      Brilliant! Thank you that worked. I was using scanned documents so running the recognize text command resolved it. Thank you!
