Color management not working for grayscale

I've set the color management in Acrobat long time ago, but recently I decided to temporarily change the settings. I was curious to check something.

But I noticed that the grayscale images do not respond to the changes. They don't have embedded profiles. I'm not so experienced, but I expected that the appearance of the images will be affected as I switch between different profiles.

For example you have an image converted to Dot Gain 10% and you try to view it with Dot Gain 30% or sGray or Gray Gamma, but not matter I do it all looks the same. Its kind of stuck.

Then I went to the Output Preview and over there the grayscale content is properly responding to the changes of the preview profile.

I don't have this problem with RGB or CMYK content, only with grayscale.

Thanks.

Well, the difference will be that 10, 10, 10 becomes 11, 11, 11 or some thing. Did you try setting your display ICC profile to 2.4 or even 2.6 gamma?

One of the worst cases was when some sGray image was tagged Adobe RGB. But adobe RGB uses 2.2000 gamma without a linear part. That was noticable.

I think that was a bug in Photoshop: it does not see jpeg2000 image as Grey gamma 2.2 by default, you need to assign a profile https://github.com/uclouvain/openjpeg/issues/1207
