Hi,
Acrobat Pro DC
I have several hundred PDF files, and I have to combine groups of 4 files to a common PDF.
However, when I test this (select the files in my file manager, right click and click on Combine Files in Acrobat), I can set "Always add bookmarks to Adobe PDF". Then I get a bookmark for each file name and below the bookmarks of this file.
Or I deactivate this setting, and then I do not get any bookmarks.
Is it possible to get only the already existing bookmarks of the files without additional bookmarks with the file names?
Thank you very much for your help!
Best regards
Winfried

There's no built-in command for doing that, but it is possible to "flatten" the bookmarks tree after combining the files, or to move the second-level bookmarks to the first level and then delete the ones created by the merged process. This will require a custom-made script, though.

Thank you very much!
So this is not something which I could do. Pity.

Well, I could... If you're interested in hiring a professional to create such a script for you, feel free to contact me privately via [try6767 at gmail.com] to discuss it further.

Thank you very much for this offer. I will keep this in mind. However, I think at this point my company will accept this behaviour.

Do you know what *will* merge pdf files and give you the option to not include the filename in the bookmark heirarchy?? A bleeping four dollar app I just got from the Mac app store (MergePDF). I'm so annoyed that Adobe can't be bothered to add this seemingly obvious functionality, and MergePDF did it perfectly and it was simple & straightforward to use. I'm so steamed at Adobe right now - if you made it to this community post, I'm guessing you've seen all the other similar posts and realized just how long this has been a problem with Acrobat Pro (and all the previous incarnations)...
