Computer specs for processing PDF files

Hi All,

I use the Scan & OCR tool on Acrobat to recognise text on scanned documents.  Sometimes these are 1000-page documents and it can take my current laptop an hour to process.

Current laptop specs:

Intel Core i5 (5th Gen) 5200U / 2.2 GHz Max Turbo Speed 2.7 GHz Processor

    8GB RAM, 1TB HDD

    15.6" HD Display (1366 x 768) Resolution

    Integrated Intel HD 5500 Graphics

    Windows 10 Home 64-bit

I’m planning on buying a new desktop and I was wondering what sort of specifications I need to help with rapidly processing large pdf files.

Are we just talking better processor?  Does the graphics card make a difference?

Thanks,

Mafegi

Doesn't really matter, since Acrobat DC (for Windows, at least) is still 32-bits, so upgrading your computer will not change much in how well it runs. Bottom line is it's currently not suitable for very complex tasks. Look for alternative software, preferably one that can perform such an operation without visually displaying the file.

Thanks try67 – that’s an interesting suggestion, I’ll look into that now!  I’m going to give Kofax Omnipage a go.

Ok, unfortunately Omnipage was just as slow as Adobe.  Do you know of any other software which can do the job?
