confirmation after sending a form

Check out the following examples that send an FDF response back to the user after submission to a web server:

www.pdfemail.net/examples/

That's only possible if they submit the form to a web-server. Alternatively, if they use email then you can set up an automated response on your email server, but that is not related to Acrobat/Reader.
