Content is lost in Adobe Acrobat PDF when applying accessibility tags, how can I stop it?

Both when I attempt to do it manually or automatically, adding accessibility tags to my document keeps rearranging the text I have (e.g., adding a paragraph break) or removing colors from my figures.

How can I make my document accessible (122 pages) while maintaining its formatting?

Hi @Lillian28799507afpd,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the experience!

From the description, it looks like you are using a multi-layer file because the color layer or the graphics are getting behind in the reading order of the vector panels.

You might want to check the file reading order to ensure that the graphics and layers are in sync.

For more info, visit the help article here: Reading Order tool for PDFs (Adobe Acrobat Pro)

The other method I suggest you try is creating an optimized PDF file from the one you are experiencing issues with.

More info on how to do so can be found here: Optimizing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I ended up figuring out how to edit the PDF so that the content I needed was in front of anything obscuring it.

That second link is also very helpful.
