Creating a Table of Contents from within a pdf.

I have read lots of posts about TOC but the ones I could find didn't discuss excatly what I need to do. I would like to generate a table of contents within a pdf file. I have added bookmarks to headings but would like to have a TOC upfront in document. Thanks.

There's no built-in function that does that in Acrobat, as it's usually something that is done in the authoring application, but you can do it using a script, such as this (paid-for) one I've developed:

You are not listening to what we are asking.  The thread you point to does NOT solve this issue. I am not a content creator and I don't create the PDFs I combine into bigger ones, so telling me to "just go make a ToC in Word and convert that to PDF" is a ridiculous and, frankly, RUDE response from the company that created the product that we are BEGGING you to improve.  Listen to your users!
