E-signing a document

I have received a document which I need to e-sign. The sender advises i need adobe version 8. I have adobe acrobat. Is it possible to e-sign a document with adobe acrobat ? if so how do i do this ?

Thanks. I have tried both approaches. When I follow "Fill & Sign" via tools I do not get the options in the linked document. Instead i get the following series of options Create & Edit, Forms & Signatures, Stamp & Review etc etc

When I try via the signature icon i cannot type in my name/ signature in the box !

Very frustrating that such a basic requirement of this type of software is so difficult/ non intuitive.

Is there alternative easier to use software ?
