Editing documents in Acrobat (Font issues)

My agency creates sales collateral in InDesign then sends them over to me via PDF. Sometimes I need to make simple text changes, from which I have uploaded the font families into Adobe. A lot of the time when I go to make edits, the fonts always look a little off/not the same although it is indicated that it is indeed the correct font.

Not only this, but a lot of text alignment gets skewed and messes up when I do this. 

Is there a simple solution for any of this? Or do I need to basically learn InDesign basics and go in there and edit the text once I've received the design? (I have Creative Cloud with access to InDesign, I am just not a designer so have basic skills)

Any help or insights would be so appreciated!

    In my opinion, your best option is to mark up the supplied pdf with your changes using the comment tool and have your agency make the changes and submit a new pdf. The second best option is to learn InDesign well enough to make your own changes to the packaged InDesign file supplied by your agency. InDesign is a powerful professional program with a somewhat steep learning curve, but It would be worth your while to start learning it, there are plenty of free Youtube video tutorials and the folks over on the InDesign forum are happy to help you if you get stuck. Acrobat can make minor type changes, but it is almost always better to make the changes to the original file.

    OMG exact same thing is happening to me although the PDF I create has to be delivered to the client looking flawless and after spending about 3 hours with 2 diff. agents I have THE SAME ISSUE. I can't believe i'm willingly paying 200 plus bucks for a TERRIBLE product. Any recommentation to another PDF editor that actually works??

      Thanks Luke - I always had the inkling that this was the case. It may be worth me learning basic ID so that I dont need to rely on agency to make some minor text or updated image changes. I did see the ID tutorial videos on Youtube but if there are any you recommend are better then others, please do share.

      I go to Youtube when I need help with a specific topic, so I can't recommend a good tutorial for a new user, I did find something on the InDesign forum that might help you:

      I'm sure you will learn the basics quickly. My advice about asking for a packaged InDesign file is because you will need all of the original links & fonts from the agency in order to produce an accurate pdf, your agency can create this in InDesign (File> Package). I suggest you confirm they are willing to provide this, some designers don't like to share their work. In addition, there is an InDesign type preference that is user-based (subscript and superscript size) that needs to be the same on both locations (yours & the agency).

        Can you confirm if disabling "Autoadjust layout by default" in the Preferences resovles this issue?

        I don't have that option within my Content Editing section. I even switched to Enable New Acrobat from the classic version and it still never appeared - only the 'AI assistant' and layout seemed to be updated features.

        I did change the default font feature from having Acrobat decide to choosing the font of choice - however I don't think that will solve the problem completely when it comes to different font weights etc.
