Embed fonts error when saving, removed text for boxes and dots.

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

Occasionally when saving my PDF's I will get an error that states there has been an error when embedding a specific font.

The result is hours of work being lost due to the font's being removed and repalced with dots or boxes with questions marks.

Is there anyone to repair this or any settings I need to change to avoid it happening in future?

Kind Regards,

Joe

When you're notified by Acrobat or an export-to-PDF utility that a font can't be embedded, it usually means that the font is restricted by the manufacturer and can't be embedded into a digital file (not just PDFs) without an additional e-publishing or digital media license, or that it's for personal use only and not for commercial projects.

Check the specific font's properties:

  • On Windows, go  to the font file (C:/Windows/Fonts), right-click on the font, and look for words that say it is embeddable, editable embedable, or something similar. That indicates that there are no restrictions on the font and it can be embedded.
  • On Macs, go to FontBook and locate the font file. Show its properties and look for similar language.

If your font says that it's embeddable, then you might have a corrupted font file.

  • Uninstall it.
  • Reboot your computer.
  • And re-install the font file.

Let us know what you discover.
