Question

Enabling document rights on a PDF.

I've created a PDF in Acrobat 9.5.2 (full version) on a Win7 PC. I want to share it w/ someone that has a PowerMac G5-9.1. He has version 9.4.0 Acrobat software (may be Reader rather than full version). He can open the file but when he tries to edit it, gets error message "need to enable document rights". How do we enable document rights?

If he only has Reader then "editing" is not possible - applying extended rights will allow commenting and saving of filled-in forms, but to make any other changes to the PDF requires a copy of Acrobat.

As Acrobat doesn't need extended rights to do anything, the appearance of that dialog box indicates he's using Reader.

Dave,

Thanks for your response. My colleague tells me he has editing capability on his software which suggests it is Acrobat rather than Reader. However I agree with you that the error message implies he actually has Reader. Is it possible there is a new version of Reader for Mac that does editing?

Did you try enabling the document to see if it makes a difference?
