It happens because the page is an image. To disable it try the following:

Go to Edit (or the app menu if you're on a Mac) - Preferences - General and tick off the box next to "Make hand tool select text & images".

Check if the "Make Select tool select images before text" option is ticked. If so, untick it.

If it still doesn't work then it might not be possible.

It took a lot of researching on the net.

The new free Adobe reader treats all scanned PDF documents as image due to scanning text is OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

To change OCR a subcription to Adobe Pro is needed as the feature has been removed from the FREE Adobe reader.

If anyone knows how to work with the new free adobe and OCR and stop Adobe treating the scanned PDF as image, please help.

I will make a sperate post.

OCR-capability was never a part of the free Reader. This has not changed.

And a scanned PDF page is an image, so that's how the application treats it. You can't change that with the free Reader.

I was bothered by the same thing, and as long as you stay on the hand tool instead of the pointer tool and have the prefs set like they suggest here the page doesn't turn blue when I click in the middle of the page. Hope this helps Gazelle2219673792fq. GG

Also note you just click again and the blue goes away. Just tried it on reader and even when you dig into the view menu and choose the hand tool it doesn't stick, if you hold down space though you can click all you want and no blue 🙂
