Thanks.
The first image shows that the eraser was selected and moved into the toolbar. The second shows how the eraser is not visible in the toolbar. That was the point of my question.

I didn't mean to quote your images in my reply. Another problem here: the "Edit" button is not working for me in Safari.
PS: Just edited out the quote with Firefox, where the edit button does work.

Now things have gone from bad to worse. I reset my toolbar and now it is not loading any of my designated additional tools. Instead of adding tools, it creates gray lines that display no tool content:
And the toolbar has shriveled to nothing.
When I started using the new interface, my toolbar came loaded with most of my existing tools from the old interface. I wasn't able to add some things (like an eraser). Having reset it has eliminated all my settings. Perhaps I can delete a preference file and get back to where things were before I reset the toolbar.

Select the draw tools and you will see the eraser.

Yes, some users are reporting that the Eraser tool is not showing up in the toolbar in the new Acrobat UI. Here are a few reasons why:
Toolbar Customization: The new Acrobat UI allows you to customize the toolbar. Check if you accidentally removed the Eraser tool. To add it back go to View > Show/Hide > Toolbar Items and look for the Eraser tool to enable it.
Update Issues: Make sure your Acrobat is up to date. Adobe releases updates frequently that fixes bugs and improves functionality. Go to Help > Check for Updates.
Reset Toolbars: You might need to reset the toolbar to its default settings. Go to View > Show/Hide > Toolbar Items and select Reset Toolbars.
Reinstall Acrobat: If none of the above works, try reinstalling Acrobat to fix any installation issues.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, reaching out to Adobe Support for further assistance might be necessary.
